Welcome to Survivors United! This site is a place for survivors to share their stories and draw inspiration as well as learn from each other. I started this website to give survivors of abuse a safe place to go because I believe every story deserves to be told and every voice deserves to be heard.
I have come across many sites that list facts and statistics about abuse, and while resources are very helpful in spreading awareness, there is more to spreading awareness than just facts and statistics. Anyone can list those all day long but they may have never experienced abuse in their own life. That is why I chose to start a site that allows survivors to speak out and share their stories.
Every survivor has a story waiting to be told. I believe that every story is important. Never think that your story is insignificant or less important because you hear someone else’s story and to you, it seems like they have been through more in their lives. The common bond that we survivors share is that we all know what it’s like to go through the pain and to rise above our past. No one’s story is more important than someone else’s because we are all survivors and we’re all fighting together on life’s battlefield to help put an end to the abuse that shatters innocent lives every day.
Instead of comparing our stories, we need to be sharing our stories so that we may help those who are still trapped in silence. You may think that no one wants to hear your story and that it’s not that important. However, when you share your experiences and speak about the things you’ve been through, you are touching lives out there and creating an impact on someone else’s life who may find themselves in the very situation that you were in but escaped from. When they read your story, it gives them hope and faith to hold on because they read about what you overcame and how you survived and they know that they too can make a new life for themselves. You never know who is reading or listening to your story; you’d be surprised whose life you are making a difference in. The more you use your voice to speak out, the more you are helping to save other lives out there.
Here at Survivors United, it is my sincere hope that survivors share their stories with others. Your voice matters. Speaking out and breaking your silence is the first step towards healing. We survivors have an opportunity to be a change in this world and in order to be that change, it starts with us. What better way to create a change than to share our experiences with others out there and being a light in their lives?
