I Am...

This is just something that came to mind as I was thinking about all the parts that survivors play in life. These are the different things that I believe describe Survivors and all that they do when it comes to rising above and helping out others in life as we create a positive change in this world and make a difference in the lives of those around us.

I am a person with a story to tell
Finally ready to be heard after suffering years of hell.
For so long I've lived in silence as I hid behind a mask
Now I know it's time for me to carry on a new task.

I am a phoenix rising above the ashes of my past
Focusing instead on having a future that can last.
Chances and risks I won't be afraid to take
Not repeating the history of before, I have a new life to make.

I am a dreamer holding onto my goals
From victim to survivor, I changed roles.
In myself and my dreams I continue to believe
As I reach for the stars, there's nothing I can't achieve.

I am a fearless traveler following my heart
With a leap of faith, I'm out to get another start.
My hope helps to guide the way
Saying farewell to the past, I move on to a brand new day.

I am the author of my life's story
Writing a better sequel about me.
The previous chapters I can't erase
Closing them, though, new pages I write as new adventures I embrace.

I am an advocate for what is right
Looking for justice, the truth I bring into the light.
I refuse to back down in the midst of adversity
The damages abuse causes people need to see.

I am a voice for the victims and survivors who haven't been able to speak
Being able to survive the pain of the past makes us strong, not weak.
True beauty lies beneath the scars we bear
To find the courage and strength that we possess is rare.

I am a guardian angel for those in need
Through the dark times, I help to guide and lead.
Their hearts' cries I can hear
Comforting and protecting, I calm their fear.

I am a warrior on life's battlefield
Knowing not the meaning of defeat, to the enemy I don't yield.
I stand beside my sisters and brothers in the fight
Together, for those trapped in silence, we'll shine our light.

I am an eagle soaring to a greater height
Allowing my wings to heal, I'm ready for flight.
Beyond the horizon, opportunities wait
To get to live the life I've always wanted it's never too late.

I am a passionate soul speaking out
My ability to create change I don't doubt.
It's my desire to make a difference by giving back
Spreading love as hate I attack.

Most of all, I am a fighter and survivor still standing strong
Finally finding exactly where I belong.
Taking my life back, I now have control
It is with pride and honor that I wear the title Survivor and play the role.
